FINDINGS23. SUMMARY AND VALUATION24. PICTURES 1.INTRODUCTIONThe “CARIBBEAN SUN” is 1986 42 ft Aft Cabin Motor Yacht. Manufactured by CHRIS CRAFT YACHTS. The vessel is constructed of FRP(Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic) with large cabin and nice amenities. It is powered by twin Caterpillar Diesel inboards. The aft deck has Fiberglass Hard Top. The upper deck has the helm with two swivel pedestal helm chairs. On the port side is Bench seat with vinyl upholstery and access to storage area beneath.Four steps down from the aft Cockpit is the Main Salon. On the Starboard side of the salon are the AC and DC control panels as well as the Generator controls. There is an Aft Cabin under the cockpit with Queen size bed and Head with Electric toilet sink and shower. Forward and to the starboard is full Galley with plentiful countertops Refrigerator Microwave and Electric Stove.On the port side across from the galley is dinette. There is V-berth with double bed and Head with Electric toilet and sink. SCOPE OF SURVEY: Acting at the request of Ian Zimmerman the surveyor did attend onboard the vessel “Caribbean Sun“. An “Out of the Water” survey was requested and performed. The documents were in order. The hull identification number #CCHYBL586 was sighted on the transom. Inspection of underwater machinery and the exterior of the hulls surface area was to ascertain the “Present condition and Value” of the vessel. Items on board the vessel were surveyed without removal of any parts partitions carpets or any other fixed items. Further no determination of stability characteristics and no opinion is expressed with respect thereto. CONDUCT OF SURVEY:This survey was conducted in accordance with the mandatory standards promulgated by the United States Coast Guard Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Title 33 and Title 46 and the Standards and Recommended Practices developed by the American Boat Yacht Council (ABYC) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) have been used as guidelines in the conduct of this survey. The values of this vessel as stated in this report are determinedBy the use of the BUC and NADA books with condition of vessel and it’s equipment factored in to determine fair market value. Any discrepancies detected will be noted in the pertinent section of the report with the use of an asterisk ). No deficiencies or damage Sighted.STRINGERS: Hull stiffness provided by cored Stringers encapsulated by FRP. Limited access were intact where Sighted.STEM: The Stem is constructed of cored FRP and is free of defects.TRANSOM: Transom is constructed of cored FRP.BILGE: Bilge is rough finished FRP.LIMBER HOLES: Adequate size clear where sighted Hull Deck and Superstructure(continued)DECK CONSTRUCTION: Molded FRP with non-skid Surface.COCKPIT: There is an aft open cockpit with Good visibility. FRP hatches in cabin Sole provide access to storage of gear , Fuel tanks and running gear.HULL TO DECK JOINT: Visible from under the Gunwales and from the chain locker. It is of the overlap type.FASTENERS: Thru bolted Stainless Steel spaced 6” apart.RUBRAIL: Alum. with vinyl insert. Serviceable.BOW PULPIT: FRP pulpit with roller and Windlass. Serviceable.BOW RAIL: 1” Welded Stainless Steel Bow rail. Bow to Stern. *Rails are not secure Due to cracked FRP on the Mounting points*CHOCKS CLEATS: All were metal and were found To be thru bolted. *One cleat not secure On starboard side due to damaged FRP*HAWSE PIPES: Stainless steel hawse pipes sighted.TOE RAILS: Molded into deck.GRAB RAILS: Along the Helm Deck. Serviceable.HATCHES: Forward: *Lexan Hatch on Bow is Leaking*CANVAS: None Sighted. 4. HELM DECK Molded FRP with non-skid surface. Steering and Engine controls along With gauges Ritchie Compass and VHF radio GPS Sonar and a JVC stereo are located on the Helm deck. All were operational. The Helm has two pedestal style swivel Chairs as well as bench seating on the port side. 5. CABIN APPOINTMENTS The main Galley is located on the starboard side of cabin forward. This contains the Magic Chef refrigerator Frigidaire Microwave , Galley Maid electric stove and a Stainless Steel Sink. All were operational at time Of survey. There is setee located On the port side across from the Galley. There is head with electric Toilet and stainless steel sink and Port hole on port side forward of the Galley. Toilet and sink were functional And free of leaks. There is v-berth With Double Bed. Also in V-berth area is the Anchor rode storage compartment. The Aft berth has Queen size bed And two storage lockers, Throughout the cabin area are 12 volt Lighting fixtures in ceiling. All were Functional. 6.FISHING EQUIPMENT None sighted 7. (2x) (2 spare props on board) 3/4” Stainless Steel shafts Shaft Zincs were in place , No damage to props. with Hex nuts cotter pins in Place. STRUTS: Bronze type,Cutlass bearing showed no signs of wear. PROPULSION (Continued) THROTTLE CONTROLS: Dual lever type cable Operated located at helm. All moved freely and were Operational.ENGINE MOUNTS: Adjustable mounts on Longitudinal FRP stringersEXHAUST SYSTEM: Raw water cooled FRP Exhaust tube and USCG Approved hoses. ENGINE ALARMS: Not testedSTUFFING BOX: Bronze stuffing boxes and Packing glands Were Clean and free of Corrosion.COOLING SYSTEM: Freshwater reservoir with Heat exchanger. RAW WATER STRAINERS: Bronze with sight Glass. Connected to Ball Valves approved hoses. Ball Valves Moved freely. 8. BATTERIES CHARGING SYSTEMSBATTERIES: Two 8D type starting batteries For main engines. One group 27 Starting battery for generator. All were properly secured and Wired correctly. GENERATOR: ONAN 110 Volt GENERATOR HOURS: 2899 GENERATOR SERIAL NUMBER: D85Q758995 ALTERNATORS: Caterpillar factory installed Alternators on each main Engine. 9. FUEL SYSTEMNUMBER OF TANKS: TwoMATERIAL CAPACITY: Aluminum tanks 150 gallons each. Tanks are secured properly And are clean and leak free In areas that are visible.FILL PIPE LOCATIONS: Port Starboard sidedecks Marked “Fuel”HOSE MATERIAL: Fill hoses are Type A2 and Are clamped and secured Correctly. Return hoses Are Type A1 and are also Clamped and secured Correctly.FUEL MANIFOLD VALVES: Ball type valves mounted In engine compartment. Operated were leak free. FUEL SYSTEM (Continued)VENT LOCATION: Port Starboard Topsides. Flame screens were sighted.FUEL FILTERS: 3x Racor type fuel filters are Mounted in engine area. Each Has sight glass and Vacuum gauge. In addition both main engines and the generator have the OEM spin-on type fuel filters mounted on the engine. 10. Each Head is of molded FRP construction with shower And sink vanity built in.TOILET: SEALAND Electric 12 volt (2x) Both powered up.HOLDING TANK: 60 Gallon plastic tank , USCG Type III located under Cabin sole no leaks detectedPUMP OUT: Located on port side deck Marked “WASTE”VENT LOOP: Sighted GREY WATER: All sinks and showers drain overboard using thru-hull fittings near their respective locations. No leaks detected. 13. FRESH WATER SYSTEMHOLDING TANK: Capacity 160 gallons Plastic material adequately Secured no leaks detectedFILL PIPE: Located on starboard sidedeck Marked “WATER”PRESSURE: PAR 12 Volt pump with On-Demand pressure switch.HOT WATER: RARITAN 120 Volt Heater 20 gallon tank fitted with Copper pressure relief valve Serviceable.PLUMBING: PVC pipe and reinforced Plastic tubing is used on Both sinks water tank and Hot water heater. 14. THRU HULLSBELOW WATER LINE: All below water line thru hulls Are Brass Ball Valve type. All Were properly bonded and all Were double clamped. All Valves operated freely.ABOVE WATER LINE: All above water line thru hulls Serve as vents and drains. All Were properly clamped. 15. BONDING SYSTEMBONDING: Engines rudders , Generator and thru-hulls are all connected To the main conductor. 16. AIR CONDITIONING HEAT Unit #1 Marine Air Conditioning Reverse cycle water source Located under V-berth. Was operational. Unit #2 Marine Air Conditioning Reverse cycle water source Located in Aft Cabin and is Brand new unit. Was operational. 17.
