This 15-foot Sea QueenRunabout Deluxe was designed and built by Reg Lewis in Sydney during 1956.It was built for Bruce Cross who installed marinised Holden 138 cubic-inchsix-cylinder ‘Grey’ engine.Bruce owned dairyfarm in Lansdowne, NSW, and spent every weekend towing local skiingenthusiasts. Bruce found that the engine was very economical and they could skifor several hours on just 20 litres of fuel. He clearly remembered peoplearriving on horseback carrying drums of fuel so they could join in the skiing.Bruce also fondly remembered buying tachometer from Prouds the jewellers inSydney that he was told came out of an aeroplane – that tacho is still in theboat today. This vessel has undergone bespoke restoration, the fins, decking and engine cover have all been meticulously replaced using traditional boat building methods, and refinished with marine grade varnish and are now back to their former glory. This vessel looks as good on the trailer as it does cruising the water. The Sea Queen is of bondwood construction, with hardwood in places and aplywood deck. The original Holden 138 Grey engine cruises the boat at around25mph, with more on offer. The engine has direct drive to bronze three-bladeprop which is thought to be original.
