Up for sale is 1940 Custom Deluxe Chris-Craft (barrel back). I purchased this boat with the help of Mr. Jim Staib from an owner in Wisconsin in 2008. The hull and bottom had to be redone (2007). The boat had no engine. I purchased an M-6 cyc. engine core (complete) from Mr. Staib. I had Automotive Machine do complete rebuild of the motor and they did very good job. New exhaust valves were installed to handle the poor quality gasoline we have to deal with today. The block was bored and new pistons and new rings and valves were used. A new oil sump was found and installed. The crankshaft was ground and true. The engine has single Zenith up-draft carb, which had rebuilt by Robert Hake retired master mechanic. The head was milled. The engine now has 32 hours running time. With the hull, removed all the side boards and transom and relaid to the frame-work in 5200 adhesive. I replaced all screws with silicon-bronze. I had Mr. Jeff Funk of Antique Boat Shop in Ft. Wayne Indiana install correct 5200 bottom. Mr. Funk also did the final hull preparation, staining and varnish. Mr. Jim Wirt of Boat Shop, Inc. reinstalled the engine and re-wired the boat. The engine has been converted to 12 volt system. The gauges are not original to the boat. A previous owner went to great deal of work to install these gauges. They are Sun gauges which were popular back in the 1960s. The gauges all work except for the clock. 90% of all the chrome has been redone to "show quality". The interior was redone in red leather tufted). The steering wheel is not original. The trailer is Trail Master which was built specific to this boat and purchased new in 2008. It has swing-away tongue. The project was completed in 2008.My wife and have had great deal of enjoyment traveling the mid-west and going to boat shows. This boat was awarded 1st place in it's division in 2010 at ACBS Black Hawk Chapter at Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. For more information please call (309)357-8763, after 4:00 pm cst, or e-mail the owner at daveuph@mtco.com.
